Shirley Allder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 23, 2012.
Shirley Mae Allder of Lincoln peacefully passed away at home surrounded by family on Thursday, February 23, 2012. Shirley was born June 22, 1926, to Paul and Theresa Fraas. Shirley grew up on a farm near Denton, Nebraska where she helped in the fields as well as in the home. She delighted in the company of her pony, June, and was often found with the family's work horses. Shirley graduated from Rokeby High School where she met her future husband, Dale Allder. They married on November 6, 1946. Together Dale and Shirley raised ten children. Shirley always had a large produce garden from which she canned tomatoes, green beans and corn and enough other produce to feed the family for a year. There was always enough bounty to be shared with friends and family, and enough energy and thought for colorful flowerbeds. One of her favorite pastimes was fishing for bass and sunfish. She always used ultra-light tackle and could land the biggest fish with skill and a grin. She and Dale traveled to the lakes of Minnesota annually on fishing expeditions for over 50 years, taking more children, and grandchildren, as they became old enough to make the trip. Shirley is survived by her husband, Dale Allder, her children Jerry (Sharon) Allder, Jackie (Noble) Swanson, Harley (Debby) Allder, Kathryn Allder, Patty (Raul) Alfonso, Roy (JoAnn) Allder, Larry (Jo) Allder, Steven Allder, Theresa (Joe) Madden, and David (Nancy) Allder, 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law Jeri Kay Fraas, and numerous nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brothers; Bill, Joe and Charles, and sister-in-law Velma Fraas (wife of Joe). Funeral Service 10:00 AM, Monday, February 27, 2012 at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 6800 S. 14th Street. Rosary 7:00 PM, Sunday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Rev. Michael Christensen will officiate. Interment at Lincoln Memorial Park. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers to Tabitha Home Hospice or donor's choice. A reception will be held at Sesostris Shrine Center at 1050 Saltillo Road, Lincoln. Condolences may be left online at lincolnfh.com
