Mrs. Avera was born in Washington County, Georgia on April 24, 1942, to the late Sam Simons and Frances Frazier Simons. She worked with the Baldwin County Board of Education and was the Assistant Financial Officer before her retirement. She was preceded in death by her first husband Columbus Wray Epps and her daughter Cindy McMillian. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband Brown Avera, Jr. of San Antonio, FL, two sons Brown Avera III of McDonough, Lt. Col. William Avera of Ft. Leavenworth, KS, her daughter Jennifer Avra Smith of Dallas, TX and her son-in-law Tony McMillian of Milledgeville, 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
