Shirley Ann Braithwaite, 84, of Cross Junction, VA, died on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Shirley was born on November 29, 1940, in Warren County, VA, the daughter of the late Marion R. and Ida Revels Oliver. Shirley worked for 16 years for the Clarke Courier where she then met the love of her life David. After that her and David operated Tom's Snacks in Cross Junction for 16 years. She enjoyed going to yard sales, and spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Shirley married David T. Braithwaite, Sr. on August 21, 1978, in Winchester, VA.
Surviving with her husband of 47 years is a daughter: Darlene Cole of Cross Junction, VA; a stepson: David T. Braithwaite, Jr. (Irina) of Cross Junction, VA; a sister: Ellie Knight of Hayfield, VA; six grandchildren: Angela Cole (Dalton), Matthew Cole (Summer), Jonathan (Ashley), Shenandoah, Nicholas, Michael Brathwaite; and six great-grandchildren: Carter, Alex, Leo, Kaiya, Hazel & Zachary; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church in Whitacre, VA on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Officiating will be Pastor Jim Markle. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the New Hope Baptist Church on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5-7 PM.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to Reynold Store Vol. Fire & Rescue, 9381 N. Frederick Pike, Cross Junction, VA 22625 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork St., Winchester, VA 22601.
The family would like to thank all the staff and nurses from Blue Ridge Hospice for the love, support and care they showed Shirley and the family.
