Shirley H. Brickman, 88, of Bowling Green, passed away Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at her home in Bowling Green, MO.
Shirley was born December 11, 1936, in La Grange, MO to Ellis and Mamie (Mealman) Cary. She was married to Merlin Brickman on October 27, 1956, in Quincy, IL. He preceded her in death on April 4, 2010.
Survivors include her three children, Vicky Shubert (Steve) of Quincy, Cheryl Hainline (Nelson) of Bowling Green, MO, and Scott Brickman (Andrea) of WI; eleven grandchildren, Jacob Brickman, Kate Brickman, Connor Brickman, Miranda Bliss, Benjamin Brickman, Nelson Hainline (Stephanie), Tyler Hainline (Tiffany), Joshua Hainline, Shelby Ardeneaux (Joseph), Steven Brickman, and Sterling Brickman; eighteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Joseph Brickman and Terry Brickman; and nine siblings, George, Arville, Eugene "Casey", Doris, Donald, Robert "Bob", Marian, Randall, and Dorsey Cary.
Shirley worked as a caregiver at Pyramid, providing comfort and assistance to those in need. Her compassionate nature extended into her role as a Lay Pastor, where she visited hospitals and nursing homes, offering spiritual support and companionship to the sick and elderly. Shirley's commitment to her community was further reflected in her active membership at Grace United Methodist Church, where she found strength and fellowship.
Music was one of Shirley's greatest passions. Her voice was a staple in the choir at Grace United Methodist Church, where she shared her love for song and praise. She found joy in the melodies of Randy Travis, KISS, and Elvis. Shirley was an avid fan of Westerns, wrestling, and "Walker Texas Ranger," which often graced her television screen. Shopping was a favorite pastime, with JC Penney and Bergners being her go-to stores. Every Sunday, without fail, she could be found at her favorite restaurant, Sprouts, enjoying a meal and the company of friends and family. A nature lover at heart, Shirley cherished her visits to the Lock & Dam to watch the eagles. Above all, Shirley was a family woman through and through. Her greatest joy came from being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her unconditional love, wisdom, and laughter.
