Shirley Jean Childers passed away on October 12, 2025, at Atrium Health Cabarrus Hospital. She was surrounded by her husband of 52 years, Mark Childers, and their three children.
She was born in Rector, Arkansas on March 24, 1947. Raised in California and ended up in Nevada where she meet her forever partner.
They decided in 1980 that they would like to make the transition to Alaska and packed up all three of their children and drove the Alcan.
All of her children were raised in Valdez, Alaska where she turned her catering experience into a heck of a bartender and the best hospitality host you would ever meet. Her social skills and determination surpassed most. She never meet a stranger and was always on top of her game and willing to help anyone no matter who or what it was.
Eventually her and her husband, after 12 years in Arizona decided to move to North Carolina, where they settled in Midland.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Mark and children Dana Taiclet (James), Deanna Childers-Brown (Ed) and Robert Childers. She also had the blessing of 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Monday, October 20, 2025 from 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The service will follow at 1:00 pm in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Rev. Don Burleyson. The service will be webcast. Burial will follow at Norview Gardens.
Her passing has left a hole in our hearts but we know she is with our Lord above and resting in peace. “Legacy is not for leaving people it’s leaving something in people."
