She was a dedicated educator, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of her students during her tenure at Stonestreet Elementary, Bates Elementary, and Thomas Jefferson Middle School.

Shirley was a proud graduate of Eastern High School, furthering her education with a master's degree from The University of Louisville in the field of education. Her commitment to teaching was paralleled by her passion for nurturing young minds, a testament to her generous spirit and her great sense of humor, which endeared her to all who knew her.

She found joy in activities such as watching Hallmark Christmas movies and QVC, as well as frequent visits to McDonald's for her favorite Diet Coke. Shirley also enjoyed being in the audience for her grandchildren's musical performances and her son's shows. Her devotion extended beyond her immediate family; she was known as a beloved member of Hurstbourne Christian Church, where she fostered friendships over her 20 years of membership.
