Shirley A. Cordell, age 78 years, of the Mt. Pleasant Community died Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
She was born in Abilene, Texas on September 20, 1947, where she met her husband, Louie in the Air Force and then moved back to Kentucky to start her family.
Shirley was a spiritual wife and mother that guided her children and grandchildren to walk in the footsteps of the Lord. That was her main goal in Life.
She loved reading and studying her Bible, sewing and gardening outdoors. She was a homemaker to 10 kids and her grandchildren. Shirley was a good mom and spent her whole life raising her baby, Chaska,. whom was also her best friend,
She is preceded in death by her mother and step father, Ida Lee Nelson and M.S. Nelson; father and stepmother, Hershel Thomas and Luella Thomas; husband, Louie C. Cordell; son, Louie C. Cordell, Jr.; daughter, Shelia R. Cordell, son, Lydell A. Cordell; great granddaughter, Aubrey H. Payne and sister, Norma Shelton.
Survivors include her daughters, Sharree Payne and husband, Jamey, Cheryl Bozeman and husband, Justin, Sharon Osborn and husband, Carl, Stacia Jones and husband, Silas, Stephanie Thompson, Chaska Cordell, and Heather Cordell; sister, Debbie Jones and husband, Tracy; brothers, Gary Thomas and wife, Susan, James Thomas, and Bobby Thomas; grandchildren, Ashley Bruck (Korey), Paige Payne, Dylan Payne (Randi), RayLynn Payne, Chelsea Quinn (Ryan), Michael Jones, Alex Jones, Amber Coffey, Gage Privett, Ethan Keith, Zander Owens, and Sophia Owens; 5 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 12pm Tuesday, November 18, 2025 at the McCreary County Funeral Home with Bro. Boyd Rowe officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 10am Tuesday at the Funeral Home.
