Shirley Cunningham, 86, of Oxford, Arkansas, passed from this walk of life on Monday, September 1, 2025, at her home in Oxford.
She was born on August 30, 1939, in Oxford, Arkansas, to the late Lawrence and Treva (Parish) Wood. Shirley was united in marriage to Bobby J. Cunningham on March 17, 1956, in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, and from this union three children were born. Shirley worked for the Tri County Shirt Factory in Salem, Arkansas, for 45 plus years. She was there from the time the factory opened until it closed in 2001. After her time at the shirt factory, Shirley worked for White River Area Agency on Aging for 20 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Oxford Cumberland Presbyterian United Methodist Church in Oxford, Arkansas. Shirley enjoyed being outside, taking care of her yard, working in her garden and flowers. She loved her family and loved spending time with them especially her grandkids and great grandkids.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Denise Russell and husband Jerry of Melbourne, Arkansas; brother, James Wood and wife Tammy of Oxford, Arkansas; sister, Janet Reynolds and husband Darrell of Rogersville, Missouri; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Jody, Brandon, Cameron, Krissy and Lauren; seven great grandchildren, Emma, Jackson, Jeffery, Abbie, Grace, Olivia and Bridger; daughter-in-law, Vonda Cunningham of Oxford, Arkansas and other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Cunningham; son, Bobby L. Cunningham; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Terry Gilbert; parents and sister, Kathryn Grimmett.
Pallbearers include: Tristin Wood, David Thomas, Glendon Everett, Kountry Shields, Shane Kinion and Doc Warden
Honorary Pallbearers include: Jackson Russell, Jeffery Russell, Darrell Reynolds, Chase Walker, Brett Burns and Alfred Grice
Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 3, 2025, beginning at 2:00 PM at Doty Family Funeral Service Chapel in Salem, Arkansas. Visitation will be prior to the service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Arkansas.
