Shirley David Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Thompson - Larson Funeral Home, Minot on Oct. 13, 2023.
Shirley David, 98, Minot, ND, formerly of Dickinson, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Trinity Nursing Home.
Shirley Ann Wilcox was born October 19, 1924, the daughter of Ervin and Thelma (Beach) Wilcox, in Flandreau, SD. She was raised and educated in Hot Springs, SD. Following high school she attended the University of South Dakota in Vermillion for one year. Upon returning to Hot Springs in 1944, Shirley began working part-time at the movie theater and as a pharmacist assistant until the end of WWII.
She married Ray David in 1950. They made their home in Hot Springs, SD and then Chardon, NE. Together they managed movie theaters. In 1959 Ray accepted a position with the Chamber of Commerce in Williston, ND. That position led him to a 16 year career in the radio business with KEYZ. While living in Williston, Shirley worked as a cosmetician and also owned a children's clothing store for a number of years. In 1975, Ray and Shirley relocated to Dickinson, ND to start their own radio station, KLTC. During their 35 years in Dickinson, Shirley enjoyed playing golf, bridge, selling Avon, and helping with the radio business. Shirley was an avid Chicago Bulls fan during the years Phil Jackson was coach. So much so she wouldn't even accept phone calls from her own children during a game. In their retirement years they enjoyed traveling, visiting family, and spending winters in Arizona. Bismarck became Ray and Shirley's new home in 2010 and in 2014 they moved to Minot to be near family. Ray passed away September 30, 2014.
Her loving family includes: children, Scott David, Phoenix, AZ, Don (Susan) Beach, Moulton, AL, Deborah Schultz, Minot, ND, Vivian (Rod) Knodel, Waukee, IA; grandchildren, Jesse Beach, AL, Thomas (Glair) Beach, SC, Adam (Keitra) Beach, LA, Christina (Paul) Wendorf, AL, Zachary Schultz (Jazmine), ND, Chrisara (Tony) Halsey, OK, Ian Knodel, NY, Sean (Kelsey) Knodel, ND, and 14 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 64 years, Ray; brother, William "Bill" Wilcox; and son-in-law, Charles Schultz.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Wellington Assisted Living for the care given to Ray and Shirley. We also thank the staff at Maple View Memory Care, and Trinity Homes for the loving care given to Shirley.
Private family services will be held.
