Shirley Ewy Obituary

Shirley Ann Ewy of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away in her home on March 27th, 2026. Ann was born August 8th, 1948 in Chickasha, Oklahoma where she was raised by her parents Cecil and Geraldine Benson. She graduated as a Fightin' Chick from Chickasha Highschool in 1966. Ann went on to work in many fields throughout her life including her work as a special education teacher in Moore, Oklahoma where she was blessed to meet many wonderful educators, parents, and students whom she loved dearly.

Ann met her husband, John Wayne Ewy, in 1979 at J. Botie's where Ann was working and John was a delivery man for Coors. They were married two years later in 1981, and were married for 43 years full of joy and love. Together they owned and ran a wholesale bait and tackle business at Lake Texoma. Ann was a mother to many "fur babies" throughout her life, and her dogs Toby, Winston, and Benson were her heart.

Ann was a strong advocate for veterans, and was a proud patriot. She was a fierce champion of kids with special needs, and was always supporting and loving her students in and out of the classroom. She loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs, and sent punny holiday and birthday cards that exhibited her witty sense of humor and how she was often thinking of others. She loved to read the newest mysteries and thrillers, and would always turn her books in on time at the library. As an avid University of Oklahoma fan, if OU sports were on tv, Ann was watching, and she would make sure you were too. Her feisty spirit was everpresent, and her ornery nature inspired laughter and joy for those around her.

Ann is survived by her fur-baby Benson, brother James Benson, sister-in-law Karen Benson, niece Jennifer Shaw and her two children Jared Shaw and Valarie Shaw, her great nephew Spencer Benson, step-daughter Penny Clark-Ewy and her husband Rob Clark, and many other loved ones, relatives, and friends who will miss her greatly.

Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband John Wayne Ewy, parents Cecil and Geraldine Benson, her step son Lt. Jered Ewy, and her nephew Todd Benson.
