Shirley Ann (Joy) Fouche daughter of Fred and Vera (Patterson) Joy was born May 6, 1929 at Last Chance in Lucas County, IA, moving to the family farm in Humeston. She passed from this life Thursday, January 29, 2025 at 95 years of age.
She went to McMains country school K-8, then graduated from Humeston High School in 1948. She was united in marriage to Ron Isaac Fouche on September 18, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Joy Sue and Ronda Ann.
Ron and Shirley have lived on the R&S Farm raising and showing sheep, recognized as Master Lamb Producers in 1967. They also produced their own herd of purebred Limousin Cattle.
Shirley's first job was working for REC as a cashier starting in Humeston then transferring to Osceola for a total of 71/2 years. She also worked 17 year for Farmers Coop as a bookkeeper, and at the I-35 school kitchen as a fill-in when needed, you could also find her helping out in Double "A" Antiques Shop. Shirley was a faithful blood donor, giving over 72 pints of O+ blood.
Shirley was a charter member of starting and running the 4-H and later AFS food stand at the county fair for over 20 years. She enjoyed being part of the crew and riding in her nephew, Gary Fouche's hot air balloons. Shirley always looked forward to helping with Toys for Christmas for many years. Shirley was a member of the Murray Church of Christ, The Smile Awhile Club, The Miowa Rebekah Lodge from 1947 until present.
Most of all she enjoyed her granddaughters, attending all types of events to cheer for them. Shirley enjoyed cooking and baking, winning many ribbons at the Iowa State Fair with her baking. She always had dessert or a meal ready when family or friends stopped in. When it came to the kitchen or taking care of people, no task was too big for her.
