Shirley M. (Skaff) George, 90 of Worcester, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025 at Beaumont Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing with her family by her side.
Shirley was born in Lowell, MA., a daughter of the late George and Naffie (Bardwell) Skaff. She worked for Mill Swan Head Start with handicapped children for 13 years, she worked as a teacher’s assistant for the City of Worcester School Department at Rice Square Elementary School and Roosevelt Elementary School for many years before retiring. When out in public, Mrs. George always ran into former students who loved her. Shirley was a member of St. George Orthodox Cathedral and participated in the Church Choir and the Women’s Club. She loved trips to the Casino but found her biggest joy being surrounded by her large family, with whom she had so much pride and admiration. Shirley loved cooking and hosting holidays and special occasions which always included lots of laughter. In her later years, she loved adult coloring books, puzzles, crosswords and her People magazine.
Shirley’s soul mate of 64 years, Ernest J. George, passed away on July 7, 2021. She will be sadly missed by her children, Darrell George of Long Beach, CA. Eric George and his wife Christine, Kimberly Sciascia and her husband Phil all of Worcester; seven grandchildren, Nicola Redmond and her husband Tommy, Gillian Rojas and her husband Val, Drake George, Taylor and Kyle George, Nicholas and Kailey-Ann Sciascia; one great-grandchild, Charlotte Redmond; brother-in-law Philip George and his wife Patricia of Worcester, a sister-in-law, Laurence Skaff of Lowell; several nieces and nephews. She will now be reunited with her brother, Sharkey Skaff and four sisters, Alice David, Dorothy Deeb, Jeannette MacKoul and Vivian Puopolo.
Relatives and friends are invited to a period of calling hours on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 9-10:45am with her service to begin at 11:00 am in St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 30 Anna St., Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St., Worcester is honored to be assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to: St. George Orthodox Cathedral.
