Palmer-Shirley Ann Gouvin, a beloved member of her family and community, passed away on January 8, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on May 11, 1936, she was raised as Shirley “Ann” Sankey in England. Throughout her life, she displayed a true love of family and an unwavering passion for reading, flower gardening, and watching the Blue Birds and Humming birds.
Shirley enjoyed a long career, initially working at Sanderson MacLeod, also known as Better Brush, before later retiring from Capital Cleaners, where she contributed greatly to customer service. Her dedication to her work was matched only by her commitment to her family.
In her younger years, Shirley was an accomplished equestrian, a hobby that reflected her adventurous spirit and determination. Her love for horses was a significant part of her life, adding to the richness of her experiences.
Shirley is lovingly remembered by her sons, Robert Russo Jr. and his wife LeeAnn of Brimfield, Darren Russo of Wales, and Dino Russo of Monson. She also leaves behind her daughter, Connie-Jo Russo, and her partner Rick Crockwell of Palmer. In addition, Shirley was proud of her five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, who brought much joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Gouvin, and her parents, William C. and Ada Jeannie (Edwards) Sankey. Shirley's legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew her. She will be deeply missed by all.
Services have been entrusted to Lombard Funeral Home 3 Bridge St Monson, MA. Visiting hours will be held Monday, January 19th from 2-4pm with a service being held at 4pm to conclude the afternoon. Burial will be held privately in the Spring.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Baystate Hospice 280 Chestnut Street, 6th Floor Springfield, MA 01199.
