Shirley Ann Hiles, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Avalon at Lewis Center Assisted Living on March 26, 2025. Shirley, who was a long-time resident of Columbus, was born in Coshocton, Ohio, on February 1, 1936 to the late Oscar C. and Nellie Mildred (Wright) Miller. Her husband, Frederick Eugene Hiles, passed away on July 16, 1993, after almost 34 years of marriage.
Those left to cherish Shirley’s memory include two daughters, Brenda Hiles and Wendy (Tony) Williamson; grandchildren, Madigan and Mackenzie Williamson; siblings, Keith (Elaine) Miller and Steve (Barb Emmons) Miller; special cousins Kathy Wright and Valerie Herron; special friends Charlene Lamprecht, Ed (Linda) Fleming, Judy Graves; special family member Terry Williamson; and many other family members, including Bryon, Charlotte and Alicia Miller, and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Connie Miller.
Mom was a great lover of animals and had many pets over her lifetime. She instilled this love of animals in her family. Given this, she was also preceded in death by many beloved pets, granddogs and grandcats.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers at Avalon, especially Amy C., Marina, Alyssa and Monica, for their love and support these last 2 years. Likewise, special thanks to the team, including Dr. Kathy and Lorella, at Oak Creek Veterinary Clinic for the many years of wonderful care for her pets. Mom truly considered Oak Creek an extension of her family.
If you choose to do so, contributions can be made to Cat Welfare Association (https://catwelfareassoc.org) in Shirley’s memory or another animal charity of your choice.
