Shirley A. Hixson

1937 - 2026

Shirley A. Hixson, 88, of Greensburg, formerly of Youngwood, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026. She was born on March 19, 1937, in New Stanton, the daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy (Seeman) Smith. Shirley enjoyed listening to Elvis, playing cards and Scrabble, going to Bingo, and baking for her friends and family. Her most requested baked good was her famous peanut butter balls. Shirley is survived by her children, Dennis Hampton of Mt. Pleasant and Joseph Hixson and his wife, Sue, of Claridge; her beloved seven grandchildren, which includes her special girls, Ashley and Anncher; 16 great-grandchildren; and her one great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her daughters, Debbie Hampton and Brenda Comunale; her son, Ron Hampton; her brothers, Larry Smith, Dick Smith, and Bill Smith; and her sister, Jane Smith. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 14, in C. RICHARD MCCAULEY FUNERAL HOME INC., 101 S Fourth St., Youngwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15, in the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Westmoreland County Memorial Park.
