Shirley Johnson Obituary

Published by Legacy on Aug. 15, 2025.
Our Precious and Amazing Mother, Grandmother, and Best Friend Shirley Klingler Johnson passed away on August 14, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. Mom was born on January 4th, 1935, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Earl and Ruth Church. Mom grew up spending time in Idaho Falls and Salmon, Idaho, as well as Alameda, California. Mom also spent a lot of her childhood in Yellowjacket, Idaho, where her father mined. Some of her fondest memories came from Yellowjacket and her adventures in the mountains, which she loved. Mom was the oldest of three girls and was instrumental in helping to raise them. She learned at an early age to cook and sew, which she was excellent at. She became a master at anything she did with her hands, from sewing her children's clothing to making quilts, crocheting, painting, cooking, etc. Mom married the love of her life, Clayne Godfrey Klingler, on August 7th, 1954, and they were later sealed in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple. They were married 24 years, during which time they had 5 children, before Clayne passed away in 1978. After being alone for 22 years, Shirley remarried Gene Johnson in 2000 and moved to Salmon, Idaho. In 2005, Gene passed away. Over the years, Mom worked at Thriftway Drug, Morris Floral, and Artco. She loved everyone. Anyone who met her loved her; she welcomed all who came through her doorway as her family. Her Children and Grandchildren were the absolute light of her life, and she loved doing anything with the,m especially camping and her rides to the mountains. Mom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held numerous positions over the years, especially loving primary. Mom and Dad had five kids: Ruth (Rick) Clark, Shirleen (Shawn) Tuttle, Clayne Klingler, Janet (Steve) Hill, Roy (Danielle) Klingler. Mom leaves a legacy of 5 children, 20 Grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She took many others under her wing, and they called her mom or Grandma. Shirley was preceded in Death by her parents, Ruth and Earl Church, her husband Clayne Klingler, her second husband Gene Johnson, her sister Sharon Lewis, son-in-law Rick Clark, daughter-in-law Carol Klingler, grandchildren, Christopher, Benjamin, Layel, Russell, and Rebecca Clark. Brock Squires. Jason and Andrew Edie. We want to thank all who have helped with her care over the last few months. We love you so much Mom. We will miss you! Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2025 at Fielding Memorial Cemetery in Idaho Falls.
