Our sweet and dear Mother, Shirley Dean Ethington Jones, 79, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5th, 2024, surrounded by her family, in Mesa, Arizona.
Shirley was born Oct 19th, 1944 to Clarence and Lillian Ethington, who are deceased. Shirley graduated from Chandler High School in 1962. She attended one year of college at Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher, AZ.
Shirley married Robert Jones for time and all eternity in the Mesa, AZ Temple on March 22nd, 1963. Robert and Shirley were married for 61 years. Shirley was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She loved to help her husband work and run the family citrus farm.
She was a very talented seamstress and loved to sew for her family. She loved to decorate her home and had a wedding decorating business that allowed her to use her creative talents. She loved to have her children help with decorating wedding receptions. Shirley had a handicap daughter that she devoted her life to and loved to serve.
She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many callings.
She is survived by her loving husband, Robert, 3 of her 4 siblings, Norman (deceased), Linda, James, and John, and by 6 of her 7 children, Marlen L. Jones (deceased)(Tami), Troy L. Jones (Dayna), Shana L. Jones, Shella L. Flake (Rex), Jaymie L. Jones (Donna), Shawntel L. Ashcroft (Brian), Shayleen L. Palmer (Timothy), and by 24 out of 25 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren.
She was loved and revered by husband, children, and grandchildren and will be missed dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the Lehi ward building of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 830 East Lehi Rd, Mesa, AZ.
A viewing will be held prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 9:45 AM.
