Shirley Nioma Jones, 85, of Disney, Oklahoma, went home to be with the Lord on August 11, 2025. She was born on August 31, 1939, in Leach, Oklahoma, Delaware County, to Audie Bryan and Roy Amos Lawrence. Shirley grew up in a large, close-knit family with nine siblings, a bond that shaped her loving and generous spirit throughout her life.
Shirley completed school at Central High School in Tulsa in 1955 and later graduated from Admiral Beauty College in 1973 in Tulsa alongside her sisters Billie and Ramona (Moni), where she found her calling as a beautician. She built a long and fulfilling career in the beauty industry, not only helping others look their best but also becoming a trusted ear to many. Shirley always seemed to know the latest town news, often with a twinkle in her eye and a laugh to follow. Between her beauty career, which began in Tulsa on Admiral and Garnet, and Spavinaw in 1978, and her beauty shop in Langley in the 1980s, until her retirement on May 17, 2019, Shirley worked as a beautician for over 45 years.
Shirley was a lifelong member of the Assembly of God Church in Disney, where her faith remained a guiding light throughout her life. She loved the Lord deeply and lived in service to Him and others.
Above all, Shirley’s greatest joy was her family. She was the proud mother of three children, grandmother of eight, and blessed with many great- and great-great-grandchildren. She cherished each one dearly and took pride in watching her family grow. She had a special place in her heart for babies and dogs, welcoming both into her arms without hesitation. Her home was always full of love, warmth, and, of course, good food. Shirley was an excellent cook and never let anyone leave her table hungry. Shirley’s legacy is one of kindness, humor, and unwavering love for her family, friends, and community.
Shirley is preceded in death by her mother, Audie Bryan; father, Roy Amos Lawrance; brothers, Carl Bryan and Benney Byington; sisters, Mary Beth Tucker, Ramona (Moni) Barnes, Kathy Robinson, and Donna Blanton; her husband, Cliff Jones; and her daughter, Sherrel Stipes. Shirley is survived by her children, Tate Jones and his wife, Michelle, and Shirley Roderick and her Husband, Ricky; her brother, Jimmy, and his wife, Carol Byington; her sisters, Judy McCoy and Billie, and her spouse, Joe Allen.
Funeral service will be on August 23 at 2:00 PM at the Disney Assembly of God Church, 313 E. Wall St. Disney Oklahoma
