Shirley Kobernick was born and raised in San Francisco California to Phil and Lillian Liff. While in High School, she met a young handsome dental student on a blind date. Gerald would later become her husband of over 60 years until his death in 2012. Shirley and Jerry had four children, Marc (married to Anne), Cindy (married to Frank), Todd (married to Deena) and Yair (married to Dina). Together, they had 19 grandchildren and there are now over 60 great grandchildren.
Shirley was involved in many communal activities including the Jewish Community Center, the Hebrew Home for the Aged, the United Jewish Federation of San Diego, Congregation Beth Israel and the San Diego Jewish Foundation. She loved traveling, spending time with family and friends, bridge and telling stories about family. Her legacy is one of creating a large family, creating and nurturing community and sharing kindness and positivity.
