Shirley Leschisin was born June 29, 1935. Shirley graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1953 and began working at AMPI creamery in Turtle Lake shortly thereafter. Shirley met Peter Leschisn at AMPI and they were married on June 4, 1955 at Zion Lutheran Church, Turtle Lake.
Shirley spent many of her early years of marriage raising her four children on their small dairy farm outside of Turtle Lake. Coming home from school each day, Shirley's children knew there would be a good home-cooked meal waiting for them. She loved her time in the kitchen and was a great cook. She was very involved attending countless events at the school throughout the years and rarely missed a game, band/choir concert or other school activity.
Shirley loved to spend time in her garden and kept a large garden for many years. She loved flowers to and most especially her two lilac trees. Fresh cut lilacs were always on the table when in season and her table was always adorned with some type of natural bouquet.
Shirley loved picking berries, apples, and whatever fruit was in season. Her rhubarb crisp and homemade strawberry and raspberry jam was something her kids and grandkids requested whenever going to visit grandma. When not in the garden or kitchen, Shirely also enjoyed fishing, doing puzzles, and working on crafts. Shirley would also never hesitate to get into a game of cards when family was around and as competitive as ever!
After her four children were grown, Shirley worked at Dahlberg Electronics (Miracle Ear) in Turtle Lake in the Customer Service Department. After the closure of Dahlberg's, Shirley transitioned to working in the kitchen and Jennie-O Turkey Store where she retired. Through the years, Shirley put on many miles traveling with her family, attending sporting events and
birthday parties for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Shirley's grandchildren loved going to Grandma Shirley's. Grandma Shirley made the best poppyseed bread and many kinds of rhubarb deserts. Shirley wasn't a fancy Grandma and she didn't need much, but she loved gardening and sharing it with her family. Great memories were made going out and picking blackberries with her in the woods. In the summer, she would always have some special treat from her garden for her grandchildren or apples from her trees in the fall. In the later years, Grandma Shirley would come alive when she was around her great grandchildren. She would come to all their birthdays and Great Grandma Shirley was loved!
Shirley has sound faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior! She did not worry about death and kept simple dreams in life. Even in her later years, she still dreamed of planting more apples trees and raspberries. She dreams of canning applesauce and making jam. What she dreamed of most was being reunited with her family in Heaven.
She is survived by 3 daughters: Jana (Scott) Orf of Turtle Lake, Laura (Kurt) Abramson of New Richmond, and Susan(Andy) Halbleib of Eau Claire; 1 son, Joseph (Angie) Leschisin of Turtle Lake; 18 grandchildren: Joshua (Addie) Orf, Ashley(Aaron) Edgett, Landon(Taylor) Orf, Collin(Eliza) Orf, Carter Orf, Dawson Orf; Abby (Erick) Davis, Kelsie (Andrew) Day, Leah (Matthew) Rocco; Alyssa (Joseph) Maltese; Luke, Peter (Kelly), Alaina, John and Anna Quaranta; Sydney, Olivia, and Kalen Leschisin; 21 great-grandchildren: Carson and London Davis; Evan and Julian Day; Evie, Keegan and Boston Rocco; Brooks Maltese; Ava Thone, Ella and Ivy Greim; Aria Orf ; Paisley, Bodhi and Aurora Edgett; Tenley, Emersyn, Baker and Weston Orf; Harper and Jaxon Orf.
