Shirley (Lull) McCabe Obituary

Visit the Whitney & Murphy Bueler Mortuary website to view the full obituary.

Shirley Mae (Lull) McCabe, 98, passed away from complications of COPD on Tuesday, October 7th, 2025 at her son’s home in Chandler AZ. Shirley was an outstanding wife to Thomas A. McCabe (deceased 1999), and an excellent daughter, sister, aunt, and mother of 10: Maureen & Joe Fyan, Tom & Patty McCabe, Patti & Mike Peery, Kathleen & John Lecheler, Joanne McCabe, and deceased son, Jimmy McCabe. “Shirl” will be sorely missed by her younger brother Robert “Dickens” Lull and his wife Linda and their son, Andrey Lull. She was preceded in death by her parents Russell L. and Margaret T. (Ores) Lull, siblings Sonny, Margarite “Sis” (Pete) Hoogland, and William “Bud” (Elvira) Lull.

She and her husband Tom were blessed with 29 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild Matilda Evelyn, who is percolating away preparing to enter this world. She was known as “Grandma Horse” to her grandchildren and elevated by her great-grandchildren to “Great”.

A Chicagoan by birth, a world traveler in actuality, a kind and charming soul, a playful person, a Queen Bee, a Dirty Gertie card player, Friday’s Nickel-Nickel-Nickel Champion, she is known for a “life well-lived”, a spark of excitement, a real pistol. No matter how you describe Shirley, she will always be known to those she came across in this life as the best version of herself that God created her to be.

Although Shirley carried many titles, her most cherished is “a Child of God”. She was ready to be with Jesus, who appeared to her stating not to fear, that all would be well, and He would come to bring her home soon. Shirley prayed daily, worshipped weekly, and evangelized through example. Next to joy for the gift of life, the virtue of forgiveness was her benchmark as she would lovingly remind herself and others, “Life is too short living in anger and hatred, so forgive and let go.”

Mom, thank you for being the person God created you to be and completing His mission in your life freely, willingly, graciously with love and gratitude in your heart.
