Shirley Mauer Maddry, 89, died on November 15, 2025. She was born on August 23, 1936, to Irwin George Mauer and Gertrude Bailey Mauer.
She was a retired Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Research at UNC Systems. She retired in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, John Hocutt Maddry, Jr. of Chapel Hill; daughters Robin Maddry of Mebane, and Kelly Maddry Young (Randy) of Chapel Hill; granddaughters Emily Hill (Jon) of Mebane, and Sarah Walker (Matt) of Efland; and Alexa Young of Raleigh; grandson Harrison Young of New Haven, CT; and great-grandsons Jackson Hill, and Cole Walker. She was predeceased by her brothers Charles Mauer (Glenda) and David Mauer, and her nephews Ronnie Maddry (Judy) and nephew Mark Vaughn. She is survived by her brother, Richard Mauer (Veritha), her nephews Bob Maddry (Janet), Alex Mauer (Tiffany), John Vaughn (Cheri), Stuart Vaughn (Shay), and her nieces Brenda Meriwether (Scott), Linda Campbell (Andy), Rose Williams (Jon), and Kimberly Bayrer (Tom).
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Orange United Methodist Church, with reception to follow.
