Mueller Funeral Home - MasonShirley Ann Matthews (née Nicoletta), 89, of Mason, Ohio, passed away on December 4, 2025. Born May 23, 1936, in Clyde, New York, to Alphonsus and Anna Nicoletta, Shirley lived a life centered on family, faith, and service. She was a long-time resident of Irondequoit, New York, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who treasured time with her family. In 2020, she moved to Mason, Ohio, to be closer to her daughter's family.
Shirley shared her gifts generously with her community. She found joy in tending gardens as a proud member of the local Weather or Not Garden Club, in friendship and fellowship as an avid bridge player, and in service as a volunteer at the public library and the gift shop at Rochester General Hospital. Her faith was central to her life, and for many years she was a dedicated member of Christ the King Church of St. Kateri Parish. Together with her husband Bill, she enjoyed many years of travel and golf, creating lasting memories with friends and family.
She is survived by her children, Joan (James) Hecht and Julie Pinto; sisters, Jean Landschoot and Joanne Carr; grandchildren, Christopher (Kinsey), Anna (Matthew), Nicholas, and Elizabeth; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband William Matthews, and her sister Constance Klemow.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Church of St. Kateri Parish on December 13th at 11:00 AM in Rochester, NY. Interment at Irondequoit Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital or to the Christian Benevolent Assoc. Foundation at Mason Christian Village, 411 Western Row, Mason, OH 45040.
