Shirley Eloise Mitchell, 93, of Canton, passed away at 1:55 PM on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba. She was born on November 9, 1930 in Joshua Township, a daughter of Harry and Josephine (Keefauver) Marvel.
Surviving is her daughter Melody (Hal) Wiseman of Washington; four grandchildren, Nicole (Chad) DeRenzy, Billy (Lynzee) Kinsel, Alex (Niki) Wiseman, and Grant (Alexandra) Wiseman, and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, daughter, Holly Dillman, and brothers, Marvin, Howard, and Eldon.
Eloise graduated in 1948 from Fairview High School, which was the last graduating class before merging with other schools. She worked for various grocery and department stores through the years, retiring in 1999 from Hy-Vee Food Store. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Canton, and member of the Women's Auxiliary within the American Legion, and VFW. Eloise enjoyed cooking, baking, going to garage sales and was an avid gardener. She was a candy-striper within Graham Hospital and also volunteered working at the gift shop.
Per Eloise's wishes, private graveside services and burial of ashes will be held in Fiatt Cemetery. Cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory.
