Shirley Moses Obituary

Shirley Revis Moses passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025. She was born on March 29, 1937 in Whittier, North Carolina to loving parents Robert and Amy Revis. She grew up as the 11th of 12 children in a large bustling family.

She was the cherished sister of the late Howard Revis, Paul Revis, Georgie Revis Coltrane, Inez Revis Bradsher, Bruce Revis, Betty Revis Taylor, Johnny Revis, Kenneth Revis, Phoebe Revis, Hooper, Olen Revis and Jack Revis.

She was married for 49 1/2 years to James Douglas Moses, who proceeded her in death.

Shirley is survived by her three children, grandchildren and great grandchildren: Karen Moses Echelman (Rich), Andy Edwards (Ryan) and their children, Dallas and Elena, Krista Edwards Welch (Jimmy) and their children Cali and Aria. Angela Moses Estes (Ron), Andersen Estes Coleman (Josh), Jaclynn O Estes and Lauren E Estes, fiancé Will Proctor. Steve D Moses (Lori), Adam Moses (Melissa) and their children Addyson and Levi, Megan Moses Emerson (Chris) and their children Walker and Braxton.

Shirley was a petite little blonde, affectionately named “cricket” by her father. Her siblings doted on her, especially her older sister Inez when returning for family visits. Shirley loved having her older sister care for her and treat her to new stuff from the city.

She held, especially fond memories of her oldest brother, Howard, who would often pick her up from the home place and bring her to his home to visit with his wife and their two daughters. She cherished the family picnics with his family and the simple joy of tasting her very first Coca-Cola with Howard.

Shirley’s sister, Phoebe and her husband Harold kept a charming secret for six weeks, as they proudly stood as witnesses for Shirley and Doug’s elopement.

Phoebe said it was the hardest secret she ever had to keep.

After their marriage, Shirley and Doug started their family with the addition of three children. Shirley and Doug, both exemplified strong Christian faith throughout their family life and within the community. She was a devoted wife and mother. Growing up, she was always there for her children, actively volunteering within the school system, attending countless activities and school events, and supporting the local church community through volunteering and cooking. Her Sunday School Class was incredibly meaningful to her. Each member and teachers over the years meant the world to her.

Later, she applied that same dedication as a valuable kindergarten assistant for many years at Fairview Elementary school where she was loved by so many of her children and their families.

As her family grew, she extended her unwavering support to her grandchildren and great grandchildren who were truly the light of her life. Above all, Shirley’s greatest joy was found in spending time with them.

Shirley will be remembered as a wonderful wife, loving mother, cherished friend and an exceptional grandmother and great-grandmother.

A service will be held for her on Monday, December 15, 2025 at East Sylva Baptist Church in Sylva, NC with visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. & funeral service follows at 11:00 a.m.
