Shirley Patricia Newton, of Kingsport, TN, left this world on November 4, 2025, at the age of 90. She was from Roanoke, VA. and was married to Doug Newton for 48 wonderful years, residing in Kingsport the entire time. Besides family gatherings, they enjoyed traveling to distant lands, boating and camping, and supporting the Kingsport Rotary and District Rotary together. Shirley was a member of the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Doug, in 2007; son, Barry Newton, 2009; sister, Esther (Boots) Jett, in 2005; brother-in-law, Richard Jett, in 2017. Shirley was the caregiver for her sister, Martha Short, for several years and Martha passed in 2015.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Mitzi Silber and husband Craig; grandson Cody Silber and wife Alaina, great-grandsons Beau and Hayes; granddaughter Shannon Silber, great-grandson Ripken; grandson Kipp Silber and fiancé Meredith Meyer; son Mark Newton, granddaughter Blair Snow and husband Keith. Special family includes her cousin Pat Hanna and husband Dwight; aunt Katherine Short; cousin Vicki Moffitt and husband Tom; cousin Pam Short; extended family include nephew, Stephen Jett and wife Cheryl, and their daughter Chance; niece Sandy Goodman and husband Ken, and their sons Tristan and Logan.
