Obituary published on Legacy.com by Semien-Lewis Mortuary, LLC on Aug. 5, 2025.
Mr. Shirley Floyd Perrodin was born to the late Freddie and Elvie Clavier Perrodin on May 25, 1937. He lived his younger years with 9 brothers and 2 sisters on a family farm around the Opelousas, LA area. He did not complete his formal education, but his life was full of more knowledge than many. He moved to Lake Charles, Louisiana in his early 20's where he worked and learned many different skilled laborer and machinery jobs. If you knew him, you know he could fix anything.
He met his late wife Betty Guillory Perrodin, they were married on April 16, 1966. After 46-years, he lost his love in 2012. They had five children, their oldest and only son, Israel Floyd Perrodin who he lost in 2021. The oldest daughter, Nita Carol Perrodin Johnson who he lost in 2017. After the death of his wife Betty and two oldest children, he was still able to have joy daily with his family which was a true testament of his strength. The middle girl Olivia Arvelia Perrodin Humphries and the caboose of the train came along later in life, the twin girls Lucia Marie Perrodin Love and Elizabeth Ann Perrodin.
Mr. Shirley worked many years along side some of his brothers on the Southern Pacific Railroad and was a lifelong honored retiree in 1987. Mr. Perrodin could never keep still for long so he continued his next career as a skilled laborer and heavy machine operator at W.R. Grace Refinery where he was the picture of standards and safety. He joined the Laborers Union #407 early and was a very proud member. He retired from the refinery in 1998, but as we know he never stopped, so he picked up various jobs from lawn service to working at Delta Downs in Vinton. He lived more lives in his 88 years than most do in one life. We were blessed to have been able to call him brother, daddy, father-in-law, Pop, Pop Pop, uncle, and friend. Now we call him our guardian angel.
Left here to carry on his legacy of hard work, joyous heart, give it all you got and be strong attitude is his daughters, Olivia (Dan) Humphries, Lucia Love, and Elizabeth Perrodin all living in Lake Charles, LA. His older brother, Junius (Jackie) Perrodin of Opelousas, LA; his younger sister, Sylvia (Alton) Auzene of Duarte, CA; his in-laws, Rose Perrodin, Rosa (Frank) Woods, and Veronica Guillory; a great multitude of nieces, nephews, and adopted children.
His true light will shine brightly through his grandkids. His son, Israel gave him a granddaughter, Gabrielle Perrodin. Nita with his son-in-law Derrick Johnson gave him 3 grandkids, Annalisa Perrodin-Johnson, Desmond Perrodin-Johnson, and Ezekiel Johnson. Olivia and son-in-law Dan Humphries gave him 2 grandsons; Joshua who also gave him his only granddaughter-in-law Olufadekemi Humphries in 2022 where at the age of 86 he danced at their wedding. Jacob Michael Humphries was his guardian at home. Lucia and Brian Love gave him 1 bonus grandson, Brian Love, Jr. and 3 more grandsons, Noah Love, Preston Love, and Aayden Love. Even with all that joy, he had more love to give to his only great-grandson, Carter Thomas given to him by Annalisa.
Mr. Shirley Floyd Perrodin "Pop Pop" will be more than missed. His spirit was so strong that we now reach for him and grieve (Psalm 88). But he completed his earthly work at the age of 88. The number 88 means resurrection, regeneration, and new beginnings connected to God's divine love.
