Shirley Ann Pittenturf, 88, of Everett, PA and formerly of Chambersburg, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Pennknoll Village in Everett, PA. Born November 16, 1936, in Bedford County, PA, she was the daughter of the late John M. Whisel, Sr., and Katherine Cleo Snyder Whisel. Her beloved husband, Allen Lee Pittenturf, whom she married on June 4, 1960, preceded her in death on May 31, 2008.
Shirley was a 1955 graduate of the former Robert Smith High School. She was first employed in 1955 as a telephone operator for United Telephone Co. in Loysburg, PA, until she transferred to Chambersburg in 1956 where she worked for 35 years, retiring as a supervisor for Sprint in 1991. Shirley was a member of Life Pointe Church in Chambersburg, enjoyed playing cards with her friends, cooking, and spending time with her family at their cabin along the Juniata River.
She is survived by one sister, Delores J. Baughman, and husband, Ronald of Everett; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Aside from her parents and husband, Shirley was preceded in death by four brothers, Dennis E. Whisel, John M. Whisel, Jr., Jeffrey L. Whisel, and Samuel L. Whisel; and one nephew, Luke Whisel.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025, in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Pastor Ryan Whisel will officiate. Interment will follow in Lincoln Cemetery. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army at https://easternusa.salvationarmy.org/eastern-pennsylvania/chambersburg/.
