Shirley Smith Plath, 92 of Millville, DE and formerly of Claymont, DE went home to be with the Lord on September 10, 2025.

She was born April 7, 1933 to the late George W. and Jeanette F. Smith.

She graduated in 1951 from Chester High School in Chester PA. Shirley married George W. Plath on June 12, 1954. She worked many part-time jobs while raising three children. In addition to spending time with her family, she enjoyed camping, fishing, dancing and bowling. She was very active volunteering at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Atlantic Community Thrift Store, baking cookies for Feed My Sheep Ministry and knitting warm items for various outreach organizations. She shared the joy of cheering for her favorite Philadelphia teams with family and friends. She was an avid gardener and reader.

Shirley cared deeply for her family and the unconditional love and support she gave throughout her life was immense.

Shirley was preceded in death by her father, George W. Smith; her mother, Jeanette F. Smith; her loving husband, George W. Plath and son, David R. Plath. Also, her sister, Barbara McGowan and brother, Fred A. Smith.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon G. P. Palmer; son, Michael G. Plath and his wife, Barbara (B.J.); seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

To honor Shirley's wishes, her Memorial Service will be private and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mariner's Bethel Global Methodist Church, 81 Central Ave. Ocean View, DE 19970. Please add "Feed My Sheep" on the memo line.
