Shirley Joseph Prejean

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Shirley Joseph Prejean, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this life peacefully on February 22, 2025, at the age of 84.

Born on October 30, 1940, in Jennings, Louisiana, Shirley dedicated over 60 years of his life to the electrical trade, operating his own successful business for 35 of those years. His craftsmanship and reliability earned him the respect and admiration of many in the community. Shirley was a man who cherished his family above all else. He was a member of Church of Christ in Welsh, LA.

He is survived by his devoted spouse of 65 years, Gloria Lasage Prejean; his loving son, Randal (Traci) Prejean; his caring daughter, Rhonda (Frank) Jewell; and his dear sister, Frances Sabyl. Shirley took great joy in being a grandfather to Maegan (John) Finley, Allison Prejean, and a great-grandfather to Addison, Luke, Chase, and Annaclaire Finley. Time spent with family brought him endless happiness, and he always made it a priority to nurture those relationships.

In addition to his professional and familial commitments, Shirley found solace in the great outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing, often spending quiet moments reflecting by the water or tending to his cherished fruit trees and chickens. His caring spirit and love for nature were as integral to his character as his work ethic.

A funeral service in honor of Shirley will be held on February 27, 2025, at 2:00 PM, in the Miguez Funeral Home Chapel.

Family and friends are welcome to gather for a visitation at Miguez Funeral Home on February 27, 2025, starting at 9:30 AM, and continue until the time of service. Shirley will be laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, under the direction of Miguez Funeral Home.

Shirley Prejean leaves a legacy of love, dedication, and community service that will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him. He will be dearly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Shirley was preceded in death by his parents Ardes Prejean and Amelia Prejean an siblings, Mattie Netek, Ida Guiry, Hilda Johnson, Helen Hebert, Nola Doucet, Dora Doucet, Verna Mae Miller, Betty Abernathy, Johnny Prejean, Claude Prejean, Emile Frank Prejean, Nalton Prejean, Lawrence Prejean and Rodney Prejean.
