Graveside services to celebrate the life of Shirley Pyle, 81, of Tyler will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Tyler with Father Andrew officiating.
She passed away peacefully at her home in Tyler, Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Shirley Catherine Lammers Pyle was born August 14, 1943 in Aviston, IL. She had been a resident of Tyler, Texas for 27 years. She graduated from the University of Southern Illinois Edwardsville with a degree in History and minor in English. She started out as a school teacher at her alma mater, St. Claire's and then taught in Chicago. Wanting a change of life and adventure, she and two friends decided to move to San Francisco. There she transitioned from teaching to accounting, and also met her future husband, Tom Pyle, who managed their apartment building. They married in 1972, and instantly became the best team. Tom was running his own real estate company and Shirley came right alongside managing all his books. He was the big picture and she was all the details. Together they accomplished many business successes and in the midst of it all was an amazing mother. The opportunities were in Texas so they moved to Corpus Christi in 1988. After a decade, they settled in Tyler, where they lived for the remainder of their years together.
Shirley retired, but not completely, from the family business in 2018 allowing her to be more active and engaged in her community. She loved people, but most of all, she loved her family; her favorite occupation was being a Grandma. She was a beloved member of the Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul, where she served with devotion as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also an active member of the Altar Society and her new favorite hobbie became playing Mahjong.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Earl Tom Pyle; parents, Frank and Lillian Lammers; and brother, Jim Lammers. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Kinstle, brother, Robert Lammers, her three children, Toma Donley, Matt Pyle, and Mari Haft and ten grandchildren, Mara, Luke, Paul, Travis, Trevor, Calvin, Trinity, Jonah, Tyler Jon (TJ), and Melia.
Since Shirley had tremendous patriotism, if desired, memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers at www.T2T.org in her name, an organization she strongly supported during her life. Flowers may be delivered to Rose Lawn Cemetery on Friday, November 22, 2024 by 3:00 p.m.
