Larry Dee McClain

L. D. "Larry Dee" McClain of Ben Wheeler, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. A resident of Ben Wheeler since January 2018, he formerly lived in Big Sandy, Texas.

Larry was born to Wayland and Willie Mae (Engledow) McClain, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his previous wife, Joyce Lynn (Radney) McClain (1993).

A 1965 graduate of Seagoville High School, Larry excelled in football and proudly served in the United States Air Force from October 1966 to July 1972. After his military service, he became a computer technician, working for Solid Systems and Control Data Corporation. In 1994, he began working as a salesman for Aaxion, Inc. in Longview, Texas, where he remained until retiring in 2007.

Larry was an avid golfer who enjoyed many years at Kings Creek Country Club in Kemp, Texas. He was a devoted fan of University of Texas football and loved all things college football. Most of all, he cherished family gatherings, holidays, his children, grandchildren, and animals.

He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Jennifer Ann McClain of Ben Wheeler; his daughter, Leslie Hooper of Fort Worth; stepson Jerry Simcik and wife Savannah of Fort Collins, Colorado; and stepdaughter Laura Gilchrist and husband Paxton of Ben Wheeler. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Alex McClain, Morgan Darnell, Belle Hooper, Jamie and Jenna Simcik, and Aiden Ragsdale and Marshall Gilchrist; one great-grandchild, Atlas; and four siblings: Tony McClain, Sandra Baze (Jeff), Sammy McClain (Shelley), and Richard McClain; along with additional family members.
