Jimmy Walker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hilliard Funeral Home, Fairway Crematory & Memorial Gardens - Van on Jan. 28, 2026.
A celebration of life will be held for Jimmy Walker at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2026 at Hilliard Funeral Home with Jeromie Blackwell officiating.

Jimmy Spencer Walker was born January 8, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Jimmy was lovingly known as "Pawpaw" to his family. He had been a resident of Ben Wheeler, Texas for the past 30 years, having previously lived in Mineola, Texas. Throughout his working life, Jimmy wore many hats. He worked as a landman, an insurance salesman, and also spent time painting cars.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and lived his life grounded in family, faith, and service to others. He especially loved dancing, gardening, hosting family gatherings, and cooking for those he loved-most famously his barbecue ribs, which were a favorite at many family events.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Walker; his father, John S. Walker; his mother, Margie Walker; his stepmother, Millie Walker; his grandfather, Bernice "Blondie" Walker; his grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Walker; and his aunt, Laura Speights.

He is survived by his two sons and daughters-in-law, Jim & Vonnie Walker and Todd & Tracy Walker; stepson and his wife, Clay & Deanne Oliver; and stepdaughters, Nicole Nunn and Dana Taylor. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Nicki & John Ohlheiser; eleven grandchildren, James Walker, Corey Walker, Cody Walker, Hayle Walthall, Spencer Walker, Mallory Walker, Ashton Oliver, Cole Oliver, Bailey Wagner, David Taylor, and Joran Taylor; and his three great-grandchildren, Callum Doubet, Ivy Oliver, and Waylon Oliver.

He is also survived by other cherished relatives, including cousins Kathy Lancaster and Jerry Neal; niece Elise Friese; and nephew David Nance.

If desired, memorial donations may be made in his honor to Heart to Heart Hospice.
