Shirley Catherine Richey

Shirley "Catherine" Richey, 89, Marion, passed away early Thursday morning, July 17, 2025, at Colonial Oaks Health & Rehabilitation Center in Marion. She was born in Grant County, Indiana, on Friday, May 15, 1936, to the late Nathan and Z. Faye (Steele) Harting. She was married to her beloved husband, George David Richey, who preceded her in death on July 19, 2021.
After graduation from Swayzee High School in 1954, Catherine and her late husband became lifetime farmers. Family, friends, and church were her joy. She was a member of Herbst United Methodist Church, 20th Century Farm Club, and KCK Card Club. She served on the Oak Hill School Board and was the first female school board president.
Catherine is survived by her son, Stephen (Diane) Richey of Swayzee and their children: 1) Rollin (Emily) Richey and their children, Lyla Rose, Adalynn, and Molly; 2) Regan (Heather) Richey and their children, Hailey and late Gage; 3) Royce (Leann) Richey and their children, Bentley and Tenley; 4) Rachel (Mitch) Bright and their children, Abigail and Calvin. She is also survived by her daughter, Sharon (late Gregory) McGibbon and their children: 1) Jessica Vandemark; 2) Kyla (Matt) Gabel and their children, Parker and Kinsley; as well as her daughter, Susan (Doug) Allgood and their children: 1) Madison (Meghan) Allgood and Emery, 2) Riley (Steven) Jones and Holland, 3) Graham (Brenna) Allgood and Estee, 4) Montgomery (Jake) Greer, and 5) Cole Allgood; and niece, Pamela Nordstrom.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, George W. Harting.
The tradition of Richey Sweet Corn continues on its 5th generation in honor of Catherine.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Herbst United Methodist Church, 2561 S. 600 W., Marion, IN.
A funeral service to celebrate Catherine's life will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at Herbst United Methodist Church. Laura Marine will be officiating with burial following at Knox Cemetery in Point Isabel.
