Shirley Sanborn Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Taylor Family Funeral Home - Pinellas Park on Mar. 30, 2026.
Shirley, a kind, generous, smart, funny, thoughtful, resilient, and strong woman who positively impacted countless lives, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Clearwater, FL, at the age of 89. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

With an infectious laugh and a gift for bringing joy to any room, Shirley made people feel welcome and seen. She had a way of turning ordinary moments into memories-through a quick wit, a warm smile, and the steady strength she carried through life's ups and downs.

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured her heart into her family and shared her motherly love with many special people along the way. Her care showed up in the little things-checking in, showing up, listening closely, and giving more of herself than anyone ever expected.

Shirley took great pride in her work as a waitress. More than a job, it was a place where she could do what she loved most-be social, be around people, and brighten someone's day. She remembered faces, stories, and favorite orders, and she treated everyone with the same respect and genuine kindness.

She passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Reginald Sanborn, her children: Michelle Casey (Jackie Marchand), Michael Olshefski (Linda Stiehl), step-children: Chris Sanborn (Michelle Wysman), Jill Sanborn (Kim Sale), her grandchildren: Mick Casey and Christopher Sanborn Jr., sisters Sue Files, Lila Baker, and Peggy Kopolow, and an array of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, and many other loved ones and friends who became family. She was preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn Banker, her sister, Dawn Holbert, and her first husband, Cy Olshefski.

Shirley's devoted dog, Muffin, brought her countless hours of unwavering companionship, comfort, and joy.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to a pet shelter, Planned Parenthood of Central and Western NY, or a charity of your choice, in honor of the love and generosity she so freely showed.

Though we mourn her passing, we give thanks for a life that was full of laughter, love, and quiet strength. May we honor her by caring for one another the way she always did-openly, sincerely, and with joy.
