Shirley J. Swenty Obituary
Shirley Jean Swenty, 90, of Pound Wisconsin, went to be with her Lord and Savior on November 9th 2025. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends. Shirley was born August 4, 1935, in Pound, WI to Paul and Lydia (Kopatz) Leisner. She married Wilbert Swenty, April 21, 1956 in Pound. Together, they raised 3 children while farming in Pound. They shared 39 years of marriage before Wilbert preceded her in death. Shirley was a devoted member of Section Eight Baptist Church.
Shirley loved the Lord. Her faithfulness was evident in her passion for caring for her family and friends. Visitors to the family farm joined her for (sometimes hilarious) conversation around the kitchen table and she always had a meal ready to serve or a yummy dessert you couldn't resist. Rarely did any walk away hungry or lacking encouragement. Often those who visited as acquaintances left as family. Her farm work ethic never left her and she continued her love of gardening into her 90th year, always sharing the produce with those who visited. She loved playing games, canning, baking, cooking, and was well known for her home-made donuts, pierogi, borscht, kolaches, pies, and many other favorites. Many neighbors, family, friends and even strangers enjoyed the goodies she shared. For many years in the fall, she and her sister, June made beautiful Christmas wreaths to share and to sell. She loved her time picking boughs in the woods and putting them together as family came to help and to laugh, mostly laugh. In her last years, two of her biggest blessings were her youngest grandchildren, Amarah and John. They filled her life with so much joy and purpose. She will be missed by all who knew her because she loved so many and she loved so deeply.
She is survived by her sons, Gary (Amy) Swenty of Pound and Dale (Connie) Swenty of Coleman and her daughter, Debbie (Terry) Loughrin of Oshkosh; sister, June Brault; sisters-in-law, Carol Kanz, Patsy Swenty; brother-in-law, Russell McDonald; 11 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband, Wilbert; her parents; brothers, Walter, Raymond "Bobby", Paul Jr. and Donald; sisters, Dorothy (infant), Helen Hanson and Loraine Pusick.
Visitation will be at Section Eight Baptist Church on Saturday, November 15th from 9 until 11 a.m. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Holland officiating. Burial will be in First Baptist Cemetery in Pound.
The family would like to thank the staff at St. Vincents Hospital and Unity Hospice for their professional care and compassion.
