Shirley E. Sword, 84, of Ashton, IL passed away on September 28, 2025. Shirley was born on September 1, 1941 in Blue River, WI to Raymond and Leurita (Weir) Nelson. Shirley enjoyed reading, dancing, antiquing; as well as doll and depression glass collecting. She also enjoyed traveling with some of her favorite places being to Hawaii, France and Germany.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Lyle Sword; 3 children, Jan Troxel of Ashton, IL, Deanna Hippele of Munich, Germany and Dayna Troxel of Ashton, IL; 1 sister, LaVonne Porter of Paris, France; 2 brothers, Myron Nelson of Belleville, IL and Kenneth Nelson of Madison, WI; As well as 17 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; 2 daughters, Dorothy Jean as an infant and Jeneen Troxel; As well as 3 brothers, Darrald, Oscar and LeRoy.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025 from 11:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. at the Chana United Methodist Church, 606 N. Main St. Chana, IL 61015. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 P.M. with a burial to follow out to Trinity Memory Gardens in Rochelle, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Beverage-Lyons Family Funeral Home.
