Shirley Sue Strother Taylor, 89, of Asheboro, passed away Friday morning, October 31st. Shirley was the daughter of the late Alger Berkley and Gillie Sue Peoples Strother and a native of Franklin County. She graduated from Meredith College in 1958 and was a school teacher and a librarian. Shirley was an active member of The First Presbyterian Church of Asheboro, NC and her passion was working at the Christian United Outreach Center (CUOC).
Shirley had a love of reading books, and she was one of a kind who showed love and kindness to all. Her love language was cooking and extending southern hospitality.
A Celebration of Life for Shirley will be held in the spring of 2026 at Cross Road Retirement Community. Shirley’s inurnment will be at the church, sharing a niche with her late husband Henry Joe Taylor. In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley is preceded in death by her dear brother Charles Winston (C.W.) Strother.
Shirley is survived by her son, Ashley Scott Taylor and wife Amy Benedict Taylor of Gahanna, OH; daughter Alison Lynn Taylor and partner Linda Wilson Dale of Parrish, Florida; grandchildren, Natalie Taylor Mickey and husband Adam of Bloomington, Indiana and Evan Ross Taylor of Columbus, OH; and three great grandchildren Corinne Alison Mickey, Taylor Fay Mickey and Julian Baxter Mickey.
