Shirley Jean Zubke

On August 4, 2025 Shirley Jean (Harvey) Zubke passed away peacefully at her home in Lake

George, MN with her three children at her side.

Shirley was born on May 20, 1939 to Jerome and Esther (Johannsen) Harvey in Bemidji, MN.

Shirley grew up in Lake George and attended school in LaPorte, MN. She graduated in 1957

from LaPorte High School.

On October 26, 1957 Shirley married the love of her life, Lyle Zubke. They moved to Iowa

where their daughter, Susan, was born. Shortly thereafter they moved to Lake George where

they were blessed with sons Dale and Kevin.

Shirley worked as a Parks Worker at Itasca State Park. She retired at the age of 67 after 42

years of service. She worked in several areas in the park including housekeeping, laundry, the

gift shops at Forest Inn and Headwaters and as a cook at Douglas Lodge. She loved her job and

the people she worked with.

Shirleys love of her family was the most important part of her life. She was married for 63 years

to her wonderful husband, Lyle. She was always there for her three children as she attended all

their events and guided them through life. Her 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren were

her pride and joy and brought a smile to her face every day.

Shirley believed in helping others, her church, and the Lake George community. She was

involved in and a leader of the Senior Center, LWML, 4H and other groups for many years.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Susan (Allen), and sons Dale and Kevin. Her 8 grandchildren,

Adam, Brandon, Chad, Ryan, Tyler, Rachel, Anna, and Mari and 6 great grandchildren, Nora,

Joseph, Lennon, Camilo, Carter, and Evelia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce

Harvey and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lyle, her parents, 2 brothers and one nephew.

A Memorial Service for Shirley J. Zubke of Lake George will take place on Saturday, August 23 at 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George with a visitation an hour prior.
