Shou-Ling Smith

1948 - 2022

Shou-Ling Smith, 73, of Ocean View, DE., and Sykesville, MD, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster. Born February 13, 1948, in Nanjing, China, she was the daughter of the late Wang Der Jen (father) and Wang Yung Feng (mother). She was the loving wife of Frank O. Smith Sr., her husband of 53 years. Shou-Ling earned her master's degree from Frostburg State University. She spent her professional career working in the computer engineering field until her retirement. She was a devoted sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a great but reluctant cook and loved eating, especially with her family. She was a fan of hot pot and crabs and was always the last person left at the dinner table. Shou-Ling loved the chaos and commotion of big family dinners and watching movies with her grandkids. She was generous, kind, and funny. Shou-Ling was active, enjoying yoga, bowling, Pickleball, and in her younger years, she was a roller-skating and hula hoop champion. Growing up in Taiwan, she loved ocean swims, horse riding, and adventures with her siblings. Shou-Ling loved music and played the guzheng, and learned to play the piano later in life. Above all, what she loved most was her family. She is deeply missed. Surviving in addition to her husband are sons Frank O. Smith, Jr., of Sykesville, and Patrick E. Smith of Brooklyn, NY; siblings Shelly Wang, Karen Shen and husband Jan Shen, Shou-Fong Cheng and husband David, all of Staten Island, NY, and So-Fong Wang and wife Mei Teh of New Jersey; grandchildren Alycia N. Smith, Zachary T. Smith, and Ko Staudenmaire; numerous nieces and nephews and a large, loving extended family. The family will welcome friends on the 19th of February at Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, from 11 am until the start of a memorial service at noon.
