Dr Roy, words cannot explain my sadness at the news of your son, I do not know him but I know the pain, not as a mother but as a sister that lost a baby brother at the prime of his life similar to your sons, he was 27, I want to say that since then you have been in my prayers. We cannot ask why not can we explain, but believe that God takes the best to join his band of angels, I would ask you to please hang unto God and know that you son is forever in His prescence with non more pain of this world.

I am shocked and saddened by this tragedy. It seems like it was only yesterday when we would meet up at the gym to work out at 6AM. I remember biking to your house so many times to hang out, have tea and engage in our usual intellectual conversations, even though we were only in high school and our experiences were limited you had maturity and understanding well beyond your years. You had a way of making everyone around you feel accepted and secure. When I moved up from NYC to Syracuse, it was hard for me to make friends as I was heavily into the NYC urban culture which was foreign to upstate NY, you readily accepted me when others wouldn't. You exuded empathetic compassionate energy and humor which endeared you to many. I remember running into you in downtown Syracuse after many years and you greeted me with the signature big Shreyas hug. Although we didn't get to see each other much in the recent past every time we met it was as if we started right where we left off. You are one of the best people I had the good fortune to know. Rest in peace brother. Preyas, reach out if you need anything, you are always welcome in my home.

Dear Dr. Roy and Mrs. Roy,
In my short two years at Syracuse, Shreyas helped me acclimate to the rigors of transitioning from a different residency program. He embraced me with open arms and made me feel right at home. Shreyas was more than a colleague and a life long friend. I had the opportunity to speak with him one month ago via phone and he told me how excited he was to stay in Montreal. This is extremely devastating news. Shreyas was one of my Co-residents at Upstate medical university. He was a beautiful soul. He was incredibly smart. He knew about the most random facts. I never forgot about him. I only wish he were around to continue to touch the lives of people around him. This is truly a loss, and it is a big one. I pray for his eternal rest. I pray for his family and his girlfriend. To his family, you raised an incredible man. Thank you for sharing him with us. To his siblings, i feel your pain. I cannot express how saddened I am by his loss. Shreyas saved our little boy's life 6 weeks ago. His chances of survival were pretty low but thanks to his skills, our son made it through. Not only that, but during that one month stay at the hospital I realized the full spectrum of a surgeon's responsibilities. Shreyas took the time to inform us regarding the procedure, performed it, explained the aftermath with such modesty that it was disconcerting. We've crossed his path numerous times the following weeks and although the initial contact was fairly brief, he always recognized us through the hallways and gave us so much energy to just push through the hardest days of our lives.
Saying her was a man of exception would be an understatement. My sincere condolences to Véronique and his family and friends.

My daugther was in the PICU of Sainte-Justine's hospital for 6 months before leaving us in June 2016 and Dr. Roy was one of her surgeons. I remember Dr. Roy for so many positive reasons. He was honest, respectful and caring. He always took the time to listen to us and to explain the details of his ideas on my daugther's unexplainable health situation. After a chat, he didn't leave the room with an uncomfortable mood but rather with a smile of hope and a big hug. During the crisis that we were living as a family, he became more than just a doctor; he became a friend. He will be truly missed. I would like to give my condolences to all is family, girlfriend, friends and colleagues.
