Sidney Cellan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sims Funeral Home - Soda Springs on May 18, 2023.
Sidney Richard Cellan, known by those who loved him as Goose, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, surrounded by his daughters. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Papa, hunting buddy and friend.
Sid was born on October 20, 1954 to Merle and Willa Cellan in Logan, Utah. He was the second of six children. He graduated from Soda Springs High School in 1973 and was voted "Mr. Irresistible" by his senior class. His letterman's jacket was decorated from his years playing football, wrestling and running track. He was an exceptional athlete one you just couldn't catch! He didn't stop in high school. For many years, he traveled with his young family for bowling, softball tournaments and snowmobile races.
He was raised on the family farm in Soda Springs and also helped on his grandparent's farm in Smithfield, Utah. He loved farming and was devoted to a life of sun-up to sun-down hard work. He was so proud to be a farmer, working alongside friends and family throughout his life. He taught his daughters, sons-in-law and eventually his grandchildren the value of hard work. He was a master handyman who could fix just about anything. He was a respected member among the agriculture community and served on many boards and committees. Sid spent years in the many capacities of the Idaho Grain Producers Association, going through all of the chairs. While serving, he was able to travel the country with his wife, Janet. During his time as President of IGPA, he served on boards for National Association of Wheat Growers and National Barley Growers Association. He was awarded the Governor's Award for Excellence in Agriculture in 2017 for Environmental Stewardship. Those experiences and the people he met along the way were so special to him.
When Sid wasn't farming, he was hunting or fishing. Some of his fondest memories were spending time with his hunting buddies, trekking the mountainside in search of horns, "brushing-up" deer for someone's first shot or patiently drifting on the water waiting for a bite. His hunting and fishing stories will be told for generations. He also had a love for classic cars, especially his '57 Chevy Bel Air and "oldies" music.
Sid was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was during high school that he met the love of his life. He married Janet Brown, for time and all eternity on June 15th, 1978 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with three daughters; Amber, Cadence and Whitney. He finally got the sons he never had when his daughters married their husbands: Jeff, Ben and Kenny.
Sid loved his grandchildren fiercely. He found immense pride and joy in watching them participate and excel in sporting events and recitals. He was their biggest fan, continually supporting them and cheering them on.
How beautiful the reunion must have been with his wife of 45 years as he longed for her, broken-hearted, since she passed away in September of 2020. Sid is also preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Willa Cellan and his father-in-law, Ralph Brown.
Sid is survived by his daughters, Amber (Jeff) Tingey, Pocatello, ID; Cadence (Ben) Blaser, Boise, ID; Whitney (Ken) Ford, Ammon, ID; as well as 11 (almost 12) grandchildren. In order, Ammon, Bryson, Easton, Burklee, Kellan, Alivia, Cambria, Taya, Laiken, Grayson, Brecken and baby Ford.
He is also survived by his five siblings, Gib (Janet) Cellan, Smithfield, UT; Bruce (Brenda) Cellan, Soda Springs, ID; Tami (Morris) Cole, Soda Springs, ID; Debi (Michael) Fieseler, Leeds, UT; and Bonnie (Brett) Barfuss, Soda Springs, ID; his mother-in-law, Della Brown, Twin Falls, ID; his brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Hooper Ave. The family will meet with friends on Sunday, May 21 from 6-8 pm at Sims Funeral Home and on Monday from 9:30-10:30 am at the church prior to services. Interment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs, ID.
In lieu of flowers, thank a farmer.
