Full Name: Sidney Rogoff
Date of Death: Sunday, August 25, 2024
Sidney "Sid" Rogoff passed away on August 25, 2024, one day shy of his 96th birthday. Born on August 26, 1928, in the Bronx, NY, he was a cherished son to the late David and Mary (Kantrowitz) Rogoff, originally from Minsk, Belarus, and a beloved baby brother to his predeceased sisters, Rae Surdut and Yetta Cohen.
Sid graduated from Stuyvesant High School and went on to earn a BS in Business from the City College of New York (now Baruch). He served in the US Army from 1951 to 1957, on active duty from 1951 to 1953 and in the reserves until 1957. Upon his return, wIth the help of the GI Bill, he earned an MBA in Business Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. His career spanned over 45 years in the credit and collection profession, where he worked with prestigious companies such as Fisher Radio, Polygram Entertainment, Coleco Industries, and Aurora Toys, retiring as a Corporate Director at Brother International. Post-retirement, Sid volunteered for over 10 years as a Business Counselor/Mentor at SCORE NY, guiding aspiring entrepreneurs. He got great pleasure from seeing his mentees succeed.
In 1957, he married Helen Odessky. They raised their family in the Bronx, Queens, and West Hartford, CT, before moving to Manhattan in 1980. They enjoyed 20 active years back in the Big Apple, soaking in the culture, and spending lots of time with their grandchildren, Abbie and Batia. Sadly, Helen died of cancer in 2000.
In 2013, Sid was lucky to find love again with Naomi Kahan, an old family friend. He moved to Naomi's home in Ridgewood, NJ, where they lived happily for the past 11 years.
Sid was known for his loving and responsible nature, always being there for his family and friends through gestures big and small. He was also creative, athletic, and fun-loving. As a young man, he painted seascapes; as a father and grandfather, he took great pleasure biking, swimming, and playing chess with his children and grandchildren. He was a lifelong exercise enthusiast, still going to the gym in his 90s. Sid was always kind, thankful, and took joy in life's simple pleasures. Even as Alzheimer's limited his world, he still enjoyed the warmth of the sun on walks through the neighborhood.
Sid is survived by his partner, Naomi Kahan; children Caryn Rogoff (Steve) and David Rogoff (Meri); grandchildren Abbie Krinsky-Rogoff, Batia Krinsky-Rogoff, and Alyson Ben-Yehuda; sister-in-law Alice Beck-Odette; and nieces and nephews Donna Kirschenbaum (Sy), June Foreman (David), Denise Cohen-Lazo, Jana Odette (Van), Kira Od (John), Matthew Odette, Zachary Odette, and Rainey Day Erwin (John).
Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, August 29, at 11 am at Louis Suburban Chapel, in
Fair Lawn, NJ.
