“Nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38–39
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Sidney Staring on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at the age of 80. He was resident of Baton Rouge.
A proud graduate of LSU where he earned his teaching degree. Sidney taught 33 ½ years in EBR School System. He began teaching in 1969 at Broadmoor High School for 4 years and then taught the remaining years at Westdale Middle until his retirement.
Affectionately known as “Coach,” he dedicated much of his life to mentoring young people. He was more than a coach — he was a father figure, a source of encouragement, and a steady guiding presence for countless children in the community.
He believed every child deserved encouragement and guidance, and he lived that belief daily as a coach and father figure to so many. The lessons he taught went far beyond the school walls — he helped shape character, confidence, and futures.
Among his greatest blessings was his relationship with his godson, Jeffrey Trim, who remained close to him throughout his life. He took great pride in guiding his godson and loved him as his own.
He shared his home and heart with his beloved cat, Missy, who was truly family.
He is survived by his godson, Jeffrey Trim (Stephanie), godson, Jeffery Grant (Carla) and several cousins, nieces, friends and loved ones
He was preceded in death by his parents Reynaud Sr. and Yvette Staring; sister Carolyn Staring; brother Reynaud Staring Jr.; beloved aunts Maude Allello and Alberta Chaney; maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Baton Rouge Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 10:00 am until the Funeral Mass at 11:00 am in the church. Inurnment will follow at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Baton Rouge.
