Sigrid Brooks died on March 10, 2026 at Paul House in Chicago, Illinois due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. She was 83 years old. She will be remembered for her independent spirit, deep love of music, pursuit of spiritual enlightenment, and compassionate rescue of hard-to-place dogs of various sizes.

Sigrid Ellen Borge was born November 13, 1942 in Evergreen Park, Illinois to the late Betty Cowie Borge and Michael Borge. She was raised in Tinley Park and in Evanston, graduating from Roycemore School in 1960. Sigrid spent significant time in her parents' hometown of Cambridge, Wisconsin where her grandfather was pastor of East Koshkonong, Rockdale, and Cambridge Lutheran Churches.

She attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, studying sociology and psychology and was a member of Alpha Delta Pi, class of 1964. A highlight of Sigrid's life story was her time serving in the Peace Corps in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from 1966-1969, where her son Michael was born. After attending Loyola University for her MSW and LCSW, she was employed as a social worker at Catholic Charities of Chicago and at Rainbow Hospice, helping lead the Good Mourning program for children. In retirement she comforted many through her work with Threshold Choir and Harp for Healing.

Sigrid is survived by son Michael (Christine Busby) of Chicago and dear cousins Doug (Christine) Culbert and Lori (Frank) Duckstein as well as friends made and kept for many decades, including fellow Peace Corps volunteers. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Olaf. Also preceded in death by dog friends Rudy, Coco, Poopsie, Daisy, Shadow, Cinder, Lady, Confetti, Little Lady, and Rosita. Her previous two marriages ended in divorce.

The family has chosen green cremation. A private celebration of life is being planned. If desired, remembrances can be made to Threshold Choir https://thresholdchoir.org/
