Silas Harrison Obituary

Silas Johnson Harrison, Jr. Shawboro - Silas J Harrison, Jr. 88, of 784 Shawboro Rd, Shawboro, NC, died Friday in the early morning hours of June 14, 2024. Born in Currituck County, he was the son of the late Silas Johnson Harrison, Sr. and Annie Kight Harrison and the husband of the late Linda Kight Harrison. He was a past deacon of Providence Baptist Church as well as a retired farmer. Silas coached many of the youth of Currituck County, especially those of Shawboro. His love of softball was well known and he won the MVP of the league at the age of 40 while playing in Elizabeth City against many lifelong friends he made during that time. Silas coached for Providence Baptist Church when they had a league for the boys. That grew to coaching county teams and he changed over to softball to coach girls, leading to the 1977 Currituck High School team in which the girls went several rounds in the state playoffs. He was especially proud of their success. Silas continued to coach county ball and returned to coach the 1981 Currituck team as well as the 1990-1993 teams, helping Currituck Girls Softball to finally win two State Championships and a runner-up. He was honored by the Shawboro Ruritans for his contributions to the community and game by having the Shawboro community field named in his honor.

Silas is survived by his three children, Roy W Harrison (Katherine) of Shawboro, Joy H Banks (Richard) of Hertford and Wendy H Davis (Louis) of Coinjock; a sister, Marguerite H Cartwright of Williamston; and his six grandchildren, Leaha H Odom (Pete) of Currituck, Angela H Banks of Hertford, Alex W Harrison (Brittanie) of Aydlett, Samantha L Banks of Hertford, Kinley R Davis of Coinjock, and Canyon R Davis of Coinjock; four great grandchildren Merrill, Weston and Everett Odom of Currituck and Caden Harrison of Aydlett. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, his sister, Janie H Forbes, and a granddaughter, Candace C. Banks.

A funeral service was held Sunday, June 16th, 2:00 p.m., at Providence Baptist Church, 765 Shawboro Rd, Shawboro, NC, officiated by Reverend Charles Rikard and the Reverend Charles Stevens. Burial was in West Lawn Memorial Cemetery.

So sorry to hear this about Silas. I considered him a very good friend, an extremely hard worker, a jokester and a all around good guy.
