Mrs. Silva Ruth Samuel Thomas, 67 of Hephzibah, GA entered eternal rest on Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Mrs. Thomas was born July 15, 1958, in Bronx, New York. She was the beloved daughter of Lucy Jane Brown and Harold Samuel. Silva grew up in the heart of the Bronx, where she attended PS 140 and PS 120, and later graduated from Adley Steves High School. She would go on to earn her college degree in Business Administration.
She was baptized at Mt. Cella Baptist Church, where she learned the values of love, community, and compassion that she carried with her everywhere she went. Silva loved music, anything from disco to hip hop to old school classics. She also loved to read, disappearing into her books the same way she disappeared into a good song. Her happiest moments were spent with a good book or a fishing rod in hand, finding peace in both the stories she read and the quiet water she loved.
Silva lived in Maryland for a number of years before relocating to Georgia, she had a long and dedicated career in corrections, working several years in both New York and Virginia. After relocating to Georgia, she worked at Comcast.
Silva is survived by her husband, Freddie Thomas, her sister, Carol DuBose; nephew, David DuBose, niece LaKisha DuBose, and a large, lively family of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and countless others who proudly called her “Aunt Silvia.”
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the chapel of Giles-Harris Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Chase City, VA with Elder Kenyatta Evans delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery, Boydton, VA. Public viewing for family and friends will be on Friday from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
