Simon Abboud, a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on December 6, 2024 in Syracuse, New York, surrounded by his family. Simon lived as a devout Orthodox Christian who looked forward to worshiping in church each week. His faith guided how he lived his life and how he raised his children. As a husband and father, he was very selfless, loving, and gracious. His home was always open to welcome family and friends. In addition to his love of family and church, he was so proud of his garden that became known as "Dad's Garden". He loved walking on his treadmill 45 minutes daily well into his 90's, vacationing on cruises, visiting the casino, and enjoyed his scratch off lottery tickets.
Simon was born in Acre, Palestine on September 11, 1926. He and his family moved to Beirut, Lebanon in 1948 for a better future where he later married his wife Lily Abyad, on July 18, 1959, and had three children. He became a proud owner of a liquor store in downtown Beirut and enjoyed riding his motorcycle throughout the countryside. The family moved to the United States in 1967. One of their children unfortunately became sick and passed away in 1969, at the age of 7. After moving to the U.S., he started working for Bristol Myers and later he and his wife welcomed another child. Simon worked for Bristol Myers for 22 years before retiring.
Simon is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lily, three children, Anna (Shibel) Jabaji, Elias (Anna) Abboud, and Tony Abboud, four grandchildren, Michael (Jackie) Jabaji, Andrew Jabaji, Marc Jabaji, and Lyla Abboud, as well as three great-grandchildren, Thomas, Clara, and Johnny Jabaji. He was predeceased by his daughter, Colette Abboud, his parents Najeeb and Enshirah Abboud, and his siblings, Eveline, Salim, Marie and Eva.
Calling hours will be Friday, December 13th from 4pm – 7pm at St. Elias Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church, 4988 Onondaga Road, Syracuse, New York. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 14th at 10am at St. Elias Church with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Elias Church.
