Simon Dunn, born on May 15, 1928, in Kelty Fifeshire, Scotland, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024. Simon lived a life marked by dedication, service, and love, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by all who knew him.
Simon began his career with the Royal Air Force, where he served as an Instrument Technician and Specialist. He played an instrumental role in the Berlin Airlift following the end of World War II, demonstrating his commitment to service and his technical expertise.
After his military service, Simon moved from Scotland to Canada, eventually settling in the United States. It was here that he met the love of his life, Joyce, with whom he shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a life filled with love, faith, and community.
Simon embarked on a successful 30-year career as an automotive designer with Chrysler Corporation, where his innovative designs and attention to detail left a lasting impact on the industry.
A devout member of the Episcopal Church, Simon was actively involved in his church community for 57 years. He was particularly passionate about his work with the church-sponsored soup kitchen at Crossroads of Michigan in midtown Detroit, where he dedicated countless hours to serving those in need.
Simon's life was a testament to the values of hard work, service, and compassion. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Simon is survived by his beloved children, Sheila Dunn, Ian (Lisa) Dunn, Andrew (Genette) Dunn, and Peter (Lynn) Dunn; adored grandchildren, Chelsea (Alex) Venet, Lauren (Paul) Mizzi, Megan Dunn, Alex (Shelby) Dunn, Brennen Dunn, Sadie Dunn, Evan Dunn, and Olivia Dunn; loved step-granddaughter, Saskia Venet; dear great-grandchildren, Mia Jade Dunn, Maxine Simone Venet, Nina Marie Adelaine Venet, Hazel Joyce Mizzi, Elliot Arthur Dunn, Jack Patrick Mizzi, and Liam Alexander Dunn.
Simon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years Joyce; and his parents, Robert and Mary (Thompson) Dunn.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024, at Trinity in the Woods Episcopal Church, 26880 La Muera St, Farmington Hills, MI 48334, at 11 am (visitation starting at 10:30 am).
