Elwood R. Metzler Jr.

Elwood (Woody) Metzler, passed away peacefully on October 24th, 2025 surrounded by his loving wife and children.

Elwood Roy Metzler Jr. was born in Queens, New York to Elwood and Leone Metzler on July 17, 1945.

After moving to Long Island, NY, he met and married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life Karen (Candy). He was the proud father to Matthew (Heather), Christopher (Lisa), and Amanda (Jeffrey). Elwood was lovingly known as Papa to his seven grandchildren- Collin, Sofia, Rachael, Christopher, Ryan, Josephine, and Brooke.

Elwood retired from Federal Mogul in 2005 after a successful career in the auto industry. His career took him from New York to Missouri to Michigan, where he made wonderful friends and neighbors along the way. Finally settling in Northville, MI where he loved his beautiful home and took pride in his gardens and property. He loved nature and travelling, especially cruising and visiting his home Up North in Gladwin. He loved sports, especially baseball and passed that love on to all of his family. He was a coin collector and loved all things historical and could answer just about every Jeopardy question. He had and unmatched "New York" sense of humor that was appreciated by most (but perhaps not all).

Elwood is deeply cherished by all who were blessed to know and love him and will be dearly missed.

The Metzler family will receive guests at the funeral home, Saturday, November 1, 2-5 pm, where a funeral service will be held beginning at 5 pm.

In lieu of flowers please make contributions in his name to any or all of the following organizations: St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Best Friends Animal Society, MI Humane Society or any disable or wounded veteran charity of your choice.
